    Wages Protection System

    Wages Protection System is an electronic salary payment system introduced by the UAE central bank in the year 2009. This system allows organizations, corporations, and institutions in the private sector to make salary payments to employees through financial institutions approved by the Central bank. The objective of WPS as outlined by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization is to ensure that salaries and wages are paid in full and on time. All private companies under the jurisdiction of MOHRE and Economic Free Zones are required to use this system. Currently, the Jebel Ali Free zone is the only free zone that has fully adopted the use of this system.

    The model adopted by the UAE Central bank is where information flows from the employer via WPS to one or more of the contracted agents for payment of the wages to the employees. The funds from the employer are secured by CBUAE prior to dispatching of information to the agents.
