ADNOC & SPC Registration
Abu Dhabi National Oil Company ( ADNOC ) was established in 1971 to operate in all areas of the Oil & Gas industry and since then has steadily broadened its activity in establishing companies and subsidiaries and creating an integrated oil and gas industry in the fields of exploration and production, support services, oil refining and gas processing, chemicals and petrochemicals, maritime transportation and refined products and distribution.
The Supreme Petroleum Council (SPC), Chaired by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al- Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, formulates and overseas the implementation of Abu Dhabi petroleum Policies.
ADNOC has 15 subsidiaries and they include ADCO, ADMA-OPCO, GASCO, ADGAS, ZADCO, TAKREER, NDC, ESNAAD, IRSHAD, FERTIL, BOROUGE, ADNATCO-NGSCO, ADNOC distribution, ELIXER and AL HOSN GAS.
With an output of around 3 million oil barrels per day and with a market value of approximately $ 8.9 billion as of 2019, ADNOC is the most valuable brand in the Middle East and by far the largest company in the UAE.
Any company looking to provide its services or products to ADNOC will need to obtain SPC approval first. SPC approval is ideally given to a company having its license issued by Abu Dhabi mainland licensing authority and having at least 51% of its shares owned by an Abu Dhabi local.
Of late, SPC approval is also being awarded to companies formed at the various free zones of Abu Dhabi. However, the approvals are decided by SPC on case to case basis.
Following types of companies are registered with ADNOC:
- Vendor / Trader supplying Products
- Manufacturer that produces materials or equipment
- Contractor providing Services
Overseas manufacturers who wish to supply products to ADNOC can do so by having a tie-up with the relevant vendor company in Abu Dhabi, one that is already registered with ADNOC.
In 2019, ADNOC awarded contracts worth Dh 13.2 billion. This reflects the never-ending opportunities on offer upon registration with ADNOC.
